Compare 'apples to apples'.
To help you compare 'apples to apples' between our offering and that of other suppliers, we thought it may help to provide some information on how workplace fruit can be represented:
- The use of the words “export quality”. Many of the budget workplace fruit suppliers claim their fruit is “export quality”. The reality is that Australia exports a whole range of qualities, grades and sizes of fruit to various countries, and therefore, this suggestion of quality can be very misleading.
Fruit at Work: We only supply premium-grade fruit that our buyer carefully sources and checks. The quality, colour and eating attributes are amongst the best available in Australia.
- Most low cost fruit providers use “bin” fruit. Bin fruit is supplied from growers in huge cardboard bins, and the standard of these lines generally have high levels of marked, blemished, poorly coloured and mis-shapen fruit. Smaller sized lower value lines of fruit are also packed in the same way.
These bins are “rumble” filled, meaning the fruit is rolled into the bins rather than being hand placed or packed in cartons or trays. Rumble filling often results in additional bruising and blemish. The level of quality control and selection of the fruit that ends up in these bins is also greatly reduced. These lines of "bin" fruit are often fraught with problems which is why we never purchase or supply fruit packed in this manner.
Fruit at Work: We never use binned fruit and we endeavour to inspect every piece we supply twice before it is hand-packed – once when we de-sticker the piece and once when the fruit is packed in your basket.
- Size does matter! When a competitor states their fruit is “standard” size, it usually refers to small fruit, usually of budget quality.
Fruit at Work: Our fruit is always bought to generous size standards and the varieties selected throughout the seasons aim to deliver the best possible eating experience.
