Eating more healthy at work

Do you feel your energy level constantly sliding up and down throughout the day when you are at work? If so, it is time to ask yourself if you are truly eating healthy while at the office. Being drained of energy can be a real problem. No matter whether you are in an executive position or a secretary, you are expected to be full of energy and consistently making valuable contributions. If you are consuming a healthy diet, you will feel great throughout the day and will have a better work experience.

Healthy eating means taking control of your life and your food environment, and the office can seem a hard place to do that. After all, your time is not your own and you are pretty much at the mercy of what’s on offer. The frequent result?—mindless snacking and lunches snatched from vending machines or fast food stores.

Are you getting enough water?

Many people make the mistake of not staying hydrated at work. When we are not getting enough water, our bodies cannot function optimally. Make sure you drink 8 glasses of water a day. Remember that water does not include coffee, juice or soft drink. If you are sipping soft drinks or coffee with full cream milk and sugar as a pick-me-up during the day, it may give you a temporary high, but you will often be left with just as dramatic lows.

If you are eating a snack, try to eat something that will keep you hydrated. Fruit has a water content of approximately 80%- 90%. Alternatively, if you are eating biscuits and chips, the water content is approximately 0%.

Do you think you are getting enough fibre?

If your body is not eliminating waste effectively, you might not be getting enough fibre. Make sure the foods you are eating at work are packed with fibre. After all, you may very well be sitting at your desk and not getting any exercise to boost your digestive system. There are few foods better than fruit for keeping your digestive system running smoothly.

Are you constantly feeling unwell?

If you are snacking on junk food it can really take its toll on your overall health. A great snack that will keep you feeling energetic and focused is fruit. Not only will fruit provide you with the proper antioxidants and minerals your body needs, it will fight against sickness. If you are getting the proper nutrition through fruit and vegetables, you are far less likely to get rundown.
